Why Blog?

August 20, 2012. Monday. The day when I decided to start being a serious blogger; wholesome and serious blogger.  Being serious doesn't mean it won't be fun.  Serious in a sense that I will write blogs as often as I can. I will dedicate some of my time thinking about what to write and editing what I've written.

If you know me, maybe you'll be asking "why so sudden? when did you like writing?".  At first, I really did not like writing; reviews, reaction papers, researches, letters, blogs, etc... In 2009, I created this blog just for academic purposes. It is not a requirement to write a good blog.  I just accomplished the minimum requirements and I'm done.

Now, I wrote this blog to share my experience and the causes to why I decided to  be a serious blogger. I will also share some of my thoughts in blogging.

After I graduated BS Computer Science, I immediately started looking for jobs.  My dream job is to be a successful game developer. I tried to apply in some gaming companies but I failed. For now, I'm just a simple programmer.  I tried to love my current job but I didn't succeed. I'm working solely on databases and back-end processes. It's far from my interests and it's really hard to focus on a work you didn't care much about.

Then I looked for some home based jobs. I came across with this online article talking about how to earn money by creating and deploying your own website. First I thought, you need to sell something in order to earn some cash online. It may be items, crafts, your skills and specializations, etc...

What interests me about this article is that you can monetize traffic. It sounds easy but it's not. You won't be making money just by having tons of visitors. These visitors must click the ad links on your site, then you get revenues. This method of monetizing traffic is known as pay per click or PPC. There are other methods but for me, this is the simplest.

After reading this article, I decided to make my own site. The problem is, I need to buy a domain to deploy my site so I didn't started my "Online Business" right away. I gave it some thought first. I researched about other ways of making money online. Then I learned that having your own domain is just one of the options.

While I was reading about Google Adsense, one of the leading PPC sites, I saw that it can be implemented in Blogger. The best thing about this is that Blogger is free! I don't need to buy a domain. Google Adsense is also free so I started writing a post.

I wrote a story entitled "Sentro". I first posted it here on blogger. Then I tried signing up for Google Adsense. My blog site was rejected. I didn't know the reason. Maybe it's one of these: my story was written in Filipino; It has adult and violent content; and it has no or low traffic yet.  Also, in Google Adsense agreement, it was stated that my site must be up for at least 6 months. My blog site was at least two years ago but my post is not. I'm not sure but I considered it one of the reasons.

Because of that, I deleted that post here in my blogger account and posted it on tumblr. I just shared it on facebook and twitter just for fun.

I can't wait for 6 months having nothing so I decided to look for good alternatives for Google Adsense. One of the results is InfoLinks.  What I liked about InfoLinks is that it is not as strict as Google Adsense. Adult content is also not allowed but at least, I do not have to wait 6 months before putting their ads on my site. Once accepted, I can earn some cash. Another thing is among all PPC sites, they claim that they had the highest revenue.

Aside from earning money, I can express my ideas through blog posts. I can also share some of my knowledge and skills. For example, I am planning on studying C++.  While studying, I can post my progress and problems I encountered and share it so that readers can also learn from me.

Another example is I can make graphic arts and share it online. I can post a blog about a tutorial how I made the graphic art. I can learn, sharpen and share my skills, teach,  and earn money at the same time.

Thanks Cam. I already got a set of ideas. When I'm done with my current projects, I'll focus on blogging and maybe vlogging . I'm just not ready entering the corporate world for now but if I succeed here, I won't even bother. Haha!

Yeah, I really hope we'll be blog famous! XD
